Congratulations to Scoil Thomáis Boys’ Hurling Team who reached the semi-final of the Cumann na mBunscol league. They played Scoil Chairáin, Donnycarney in a thrilling semi-final in Whitehall on Thursday 21st May and hurled bravely all through the match which ended in a draw after extra time. The replay was last Wednesday 3rd June with Scoil Chairáin gaining a victory this time. Well done to all our hurlers from 5th & 6th Class who were on the team and the school is very proud of their performance. Special thanks to teacher coaches Mr Freeman & Ms McLoughlin. Also we acknowledge the great support of so many parents and siblings for the hurlers and also for their support and encouragement at the matches. Thank you to Alan Farrell's father for the wonderful photographs.

sized P1010101

The children in room 20 used the new ‘Lap Cabby’ laptop trolley to work on their Graduation Magazine in pairs. The children enjoyed using the laptops in their classroom – providing them with plenty of space and time to complete their tasks.

Great to see technology in education in action! For more pictures click continue reading...

5th Class Sports Day

On the 28th May, 5th class had their sports day. The weather was good, the sun was shining although it was a bit chilly! We started the day off with a soccer match at the all-weather pitch. We played soccer knock out and we had a relay race. We then went to the Laurel Lodge Green where we played lots of sports including the egg and spoon race, the sack race, the three legged race and we even played a game of rounders. In the afternoon, we played basketball and basketball knock-out. We also did some skipping that everybody enjoyed.

We finished the day with a game of Pacman. Overall, our Sports Day was fantastic!!
Everybody had a great time and by the end of the school day we were all exhausted.... but in a good way of course!

Europe Day 2015

sized P1000509

On Friday 15th May, we celebrated Europe Day in Scoil Thomáis. All pupils involved dressed up as a great European or in the colours of a European country. Our very special guest Nessa Childers (an MEP) came to the school. We asked her about her life and work as an MEP. Nessa then read our projects and gave feedback on them. Performances from Georgia in 4th Class, Finn and Caoimhe in 5th Class added to the atmosphere.

Mr McConnell’s class and Ms Lynch’s class had a debate. The motion was Ireland should leave the European Union. Both teams did extremely well both in their motions and counter arguments, but in the end the opposing team from Ms Lynch’s class won.

Well done to all the prize winners for best artist, best dressed and our debaters.

Best artist: Winner 6th Class

Best dressed: Casey 5th Class

The proposing team: Darragh, Caoimhe, Grace, Aine, Eva and Evan.

The opposing team: Niamh, Katie, Kate, Megan, Sinéad and Alison.
