On the 14th of June our class went to the Google European HQ in Grand Canal Dock. We had to get two trains to get there. When we got to Google we were greeted by Jennifer Kelly (Grace’s Mom). She gave us guest passes so people would know we were visiting. We took an elevator up to the 11th floor and they let us admire the view of Dublin for a few minutes. Jen gave us an introduction about Google and shared some interesting facts. In 2016, 420,000 oranges were consumed in the Dublin offices.
The class was then split into two groups and got a well guided tour of the buildings. We went on the Hyperlink Bridge that joined the three Google buildings. We got our picture taken in the auditorium where they hold big events. Then our class went back to the 11th floor and the leader of the Google security team came to talk with us. Alex the Alligator came to say hi and make sure we had our badges. Next we met two engineers who told us how they got into engineering and how we should work hard at our maths.
After that the class had lunch which included chicken, chips, sliders, fruit salad and fruit juices. For dessert we had doughnuts which we hung on a special wall! After lunch there were some questions on the board for Mr Freeman. We each were given a ‘goodie bag’ with some Google merchandise. We were exhausted on the train back to school but really enjoyed the day. We want to say a special thanks to Jen for inviting us to visit and organising such a fun day.
