Maths Week in Scoil Thomáis

Pupils in all classes were involved in various extra Maths activities during the week to promote awareness and appreciation of mathematics in our world. These included Estimation and Puzzle Design competitions, Maths Trails, daily Problem Solving/Puzzle Time, IZAK 9, and the online maths website Mangahigh. Pupils from 2nd class also enjoyed participating in the curriculum-based Bricks4kidz Lego and Technic workshops. There were lots of maths posters and maths puzzles dotted around the school for pupils to challenge their numeracy skills. Well done to all the pupils who took part in the ‘Estimation’ and Puzzle Design Competitions. Results will be announced after Halloween.

Thanks to teacher Ms Deirdre Travers who organised Maths Week activities

Wellness on Wheels

Wellness On Wheels has been developed by the library team and is designed to help maintain children’s well-being. The trolley is filled with books that cover topics from abuse to losing your favourite toy, from body image to having an unwell parent. “Well-Being In Primary Schools”, published by the Department Of Education And Skills states that “mental health should permeate all aspects of school life and learning” and that “schools should put systems in place to promote mental health and well-being”. The trolley will visit each class about once a month. By using this trolley, we are actively developing a caring culture and climate where a sense of belonging and connectedness is fostered. We are supporting our pupils to experience a wide variety of life experiences in a creative, safe and fun atmosphere. We are hoping to expose our pupils to, and encouraging our pupils to accept, the rich diversity and variety of values in our school!

Thank you to Mr Kelly's 5th Class for allowing us to photograph them as they enjoyed Wellness on Wheels.
